I FINALLY BROKE down and bought a brand new couch and ottoman. I had waited for 12 years to get rid of the old one! You can see it HERE. One of the main reasons why I started blogging is to record my decorating progress. My goal is to make the living room more attractive and looks finished by Christmas. Doable, right?
Welcome to my living room! Yes, you're seeing RED. Not my first choice. I've always wanted a white one from Ethan Allen or Pottery Barn but my budget just won't allow it. I don't own a single credit card anymore... been there...done that.
Anyway, the next thing on the agenda is to sew 6 panels of white linen curtains to accommodate three sets of windows. On the left, you can see the opening that connects to the dining room. Two white french doors will be hanged there pretty soon and the living room is going to be off limits to the cats... FOR A WHILE. How can you resist? They're just too cute. I wish I were a stricter mom!
I will never get tired of this coffee table. I bought this 10 years ago from the very same place where I got the couch. Has anyone painted a steam radiator before? That's another project right there!
I can live without the ottoman but in order for me to qualify for a discount I had to make a certain amount of purchase. I am going to sew a white slipcover for this piece that way I can get two looks in one...
A few accessories picked up from my favorite places such as Savers, TJMaxx and ACMoore.
The couch is very comfortable and we love it. I'll let you have a complete tour of the living room once everything is pulled together. It's going to be a slow progress as we're pretty much DIY and Joe is not really in good shape to do any physical work.

I think it's fabulous!! Esp. with your wall color... I say much better than white would've been, and with the pets and all.
Good for you for not using credit cards!!
Can't wait to see your curtains hung~
What a great looking living room! I work with interior designers and yours can come close with their work. Good job. And I'd like to commend you for not keeping credit cards. They are temptation and get us in deep s___t. (Pardon my Greek. Or is that Francaise?)
It looks good! I'm looking forward to seeing it when you're finished. Ours needs updating badly. One of these days ... !
Well I'm a "red and white" girl, so I absolutely love it! And the pillows are perfect too! In terms of the radiator, I read in a magazine somewhere about putting a shelf or something atop it.(?) But I wouldn't do anything like that without checking it out thoroughly, as the heat, etc. But there must be something you can do to spice that up. Google it and see, and I'll try to remember where it was I saw that... I read so many decorating magazines.

You have a very good taste, Connie, I absolutely love it. Looks like one that you see in magazines. Good for you for not having credit cards, I warned my kids about too.
Ya know...I like the light touch of red here and there. Your living room is beautiful...and full of life! :)
PS Thank you for the birthday wish.
Oh what a charming room Connie! When I stepped in I just wanted to smile back at your pretty room.
There is a nice glow about this room that lights up.
Oh how I love each delightful peek into your lifestyle. The red looks like the perfect choice (but then, I am partial to a much bolder palate than many). Comfy, inviting, just the perfect place for a relaxing repose with a book in one hand, teacup in the other. Enjoy!
It is quite a lovely set and looks so cozy and welcoming.
I have got to see inside of your house! you live all of 15 feet from me, and I had no idea how cute your living room was! hope joe is able to get comfy on the new couch!
Hi Connie,
I love your new sofa and ottoman. I also love Ethan Allen but it is just too pricey for me as well. This will be beautiful at Christmas!
~~Liz~~
Connie, everything looks wonderful. I really like your style.
Oooooh!!! I LOVE your new sofa and ottoman! Gorgeous! Your whole room looks so pretty! I also love your coffee table! What you plan to do with curtains sounds like a great idea, too, and the french doors, ahhh, it's going to look divine! I've never painted radiators, although we have some in our home that were already painted when we moved in so I know it can be done!
